Mission Statement: The Students with Disabilities and Friends seeks
to unite and build community
among disabled and non-disabled students, faculty and staff; and to create
awareness through education about learning, physical, and psychological
disabilities in order to help ensure equal opportunity and access for
everyone at SSU.
- SDF addresses on-campus
issues related to physical, learning, and psychological disabilities.
- SDF discusses accessibility
to campus facilities and learning, and works with administrators and campus
committees to promote necessary changes.
- SDF holds on-campus events
that are designed to inform the public and raise consciousness about the
needs of people with physical, learning, and psychological disabilities;
and publishes an informational newsletter about disabilities each semester.
- SDF provides a social
network and a place to meet new friends. Members participate in several
social events each semester and are encouraged to continue their association
as alumni.
SDF IN ACTION...
- Promotes equal access to campus facilities.
- Endeavors to raise public awareness of physical,
learning, and psychological disabilities.
- Works closely with Disabled Student Services (DSS)
and the Disability Advisory Committee to provide information and campus
accommodations to students with disabilities.
- Holds on- and off-campus events to educate people
about disabilities.
- Publishes a bi-annual educational newsletter about
disabilities and the SSU campus.
- Works with campus facilities and programs to promote
fitness for people with disabilities.
- Provides a social network for making new friends.
Academic Support Services ...
- Disability Student Services provides to students with verified
disabilities services, such as assistance with classroom accommodations,
advising, consultation with faculty, and alternative media.
- AsTech, the assistive
technology computer lab, is equipped with hardware and software for
students with physical and learning disabilities.
- Learning Skills Services,
Tutorial Program, and the Writing Center provide special academic support
to students with disabilities.
CLUB MEETING DAYS:
Wednesdays, 12-1pm in the ICC (Intercultural
Center in the Student Union).
