Newman Hall at Sonoma State University was founded by Bishop Patrick Zeiman
of the Diocese of Santa Rosa in 1996. Bishop Ziemann was inspired at the time of
the celebration and blessing of this Newman Center to name our chapel after the j
ourney of the apostles to Emmaus. Thus we are inspired by the spirit to follow in
the example of such encounters, to walk the road of salvation with all who come to
this house seeking peace, growth, friendship, and wisdom of the Divine Spirit.
Newman Hall is a home away form home for Sonoma State students. The house
is improved and maintained through student and community efforts. Students plan
activities, events, and Masses. The students provide the music, do the readings,
and serve as eucharistic ministers. While they are responsible for the bulk of the
activities, they could not do it without the support and contributions of the regularly
attending community members.
