Biology Club Minutes 2/1/07

•    Introduction of the Officers

•    Plans for the Semester:
    - Fundraisers; Plant and Bake Sales
    - Happy Hours at various locations
    - Hikes to Fairfield Osborne Preserve and in Marin County
    - Yosemite Camping Trip
    - Bio Club Bowling Challenge

•    Membership Fees ($7.50 per semester, $15 for the year), new Biology Club T-Shirts are in (there will be a sale February 19th - 23rd)

•    There is an upcoming gathering for the biology club with biology faculty and a slide show of the Mexico trip Thursday February 8th, from 6:00pm to 8:00 in the library, room 1121

•    There will be a Valentines Day Bake/Flower Sale on February 14th from 11:00 to 3:00 in the Darwin lobby. There are still time slots for people to work.

•    We have the opportunity to participate in the Cotati Creek Cleanup February 10th from 9:00am to 12:00. Please add yourself to the sign-up sheet. There are also regular opportunities to help with planting.

•    Dispersal and Consumption of Pizza

•    Tri-Beta Certificates were given to our new members

•    Congratulations to Rebecca Riley who was awarded the Biology Club Scholarship for 2006/2007!

•    There will be a Club Fair in the Rec. Center on 1/6/07 from 11:00am to 1:00. Stop by!

•    Introductions of all club members

 

Biology Club Minutes for 2/15/07

•    Report on the Valentine’s Day Bake Sale: net profits were $216.57
•    Report on the Mexico Trip Happy Hour Slideshow (it went well).
•    Let’s please remember to have a can-do rain or shine attitude!
•    February 25th there will be a Cotati Critters Creek Clean-Up from 10:00 to 1:00pm, we will meet at 9:30am at the flagpole.
•    Sporting Challenges
–    Kinesiology Club has challenged the club to a game of broomball
–    The clubs of the entire Science and Technology School are invited to a capture the flag tournament, with the winner being awarded the mysterious “Darwin Cup”
–    Having received a grant for bowling, the Biology club plans to challenge the Chemistry Club, Computer Science club, and Kinesiology club. We will meet at 9:00pm or later some Thursday night that has yet to be determined, possibly the 1st or 15th of March.
•    Biology Club Student Representative Report
–    Discussion of thoughts on the candidates for the open faculty positions.
–    Additional discussion of wtu’s (weighted teaching units). Faculty must have at least 12, biology faculty all have at least 15.
•    There will be a hike to the Fairfield Osborne Preserve soon (emails will go out).
•    The backstage tour of the Aquarium will be March 18th, 9:00am to 3:00pm.
•    There will be another Flower Sale on April 5th
•    February 27th is National Polar Bear Day. There will be a polar bear costume contest, as well as a baby seal bobbing contest. Dress to impress as a polar bear!
•    The Yosemite trip is scheduled for May 4th through May 6th
•    There will be a career presentation at the next meeting, on biology vocations

 

Minutes for 3/8/07Biology Club Minutes for 3/8/07

•    It’s time to pay fees if you haven’t already. If you don’t pay your dues you get put on the bottom of the waiting list and you aren’t guaranteed a space for our events. Dues are $15 per year or $7.50 a semester.
•    There will be bowling tonight (3/8/07) against the Chemistry club at 9:30 at Double Decker Lanes. Show up and have fun!
•    The Darwin Cup Capture the Flag Tournament will be held on campus at noon on Sunday the 25th of March. There will be 20 people per team. Biology club will be creating a team.
-    There will be a practice and picnic on Sunday, March 18th
•    The Aquarium Trip has been moved to sometime in April in order to make sure we get the full experience.
•    April 5th will be the Spring Plant Sale. Please, everyone, get a donation. Contact Harry for letters soliciting donations.
•    There will be a Baja Fresh Fundraiser on March 15th from 3:00pm to 9:00pm. If you bring one of our fundraiser slips, the club will get 15% of the profits from whatever you order.
•    May 4th through 6th will be the Yosemite Camping Trip. Please sign up so that we know how many people will be going.
•    Presentation on Careers in Biology by Jim Castle
•    There will be a trip with the Cotati Creek Critters organization soon.
