| Conventions National registration fees help support 15 district conventions every year and the national convention every other year. Just as the local chapter is the center of TriBeta programs, the district convention is the most important regional project. It offers members a chance to report their research and to hear from outstanding graduate investigators and teachers who give invited lectures and hold informal discussions. Field trips have become an important part of the national convention which is often centered around some biological feature unique to the convention locale. Like graduate society meetings, the conventions offer a chance to share current research and discuss scientific issues. Students who present papers at the national convention are eligable for research stipends. TriBeta also helps defray tavel costs by offering travel grants to chapters attending the convention. One of Tribeta's past officers, Kristy, has gone to a convention. In the past, we have had many students attend both the Regional and the
National conventions. The students who have been able to attend these
meetings have had the chance to travel to cool places such as San Diego
and Puerto Rico with all expenses paid!!! Of course they went and presented
their original research of which they had the ability to be involved in
through this Biology Department at SSU. And not only did they just present,
but two conventions our students won awards for best talks and posters.
Corrie Robb placed first at the national convention June in Ponce, Puerto
Rico for his talk on Leaf cutter ants which he studied in Costa Rica and
Simone Haslme placed at the regional convention in spring in San Diego
for her poster in the field of paracitology. Congratulations guys!!!!!
