SSU's Awards for 2000 Announced

May 23, 2000 - The SSU Lacrosse Team held its annual awards ceremony during a team barbecue on Sunday, May 21st. Among the award winners was senior goalie Pat Ferguson who walked away with both Most Valuable Defensive Player and Most Valuable Player honors. Pat was a WCLL All-Star and was also named to the All-USLIA Team. All award winners below:

Pat was Captain for the 2000 Season and finished the year with 164 saves and only 105 goals against (.610)

M.J. led the Cossacks in both Goals and Scoring. He finished the season with 39 Goals and 20 assists.

Despite missing 9 games during the season due to a knee injury, Ryan was able to return for the USLIA Championship Tournament and lead the team in all offensive categories.

Matt Dennig
Rookie of the Year

A walk-on in the Fall, Matt was able to quickly learn the game of lacrosse and apply his natural athletic abilities to facing off. Matt won an impressive 181 of 274 (.661) draws.

Don Collins
Most Improved Player

Don was able to step up when Ryan Horn went out with an injury, proving to be a considerable threat on the crease. His effectiveness helped the Cossacks beat several zone defenses and he contributed to the development of SSU's new offensive schemes.

Mike Fritz
Asher Montandon Award for Diligence and Sportsmanship

One of the spiritual leaders on the team, Mike played with a great deal of hustle and heart. His work ethic and enthusiasm are unparalleled.


Captains for 2001 Announced

May 23, 2000 - In addition to announcing all of the award winners on Sunday, SSU also announced its Captains for the 2000-2001 academic year. All three players were chosen by their teammates and are sure to exhibit a great deal of leadership during the upcoming season. With 20 recruits coming in the fall, they will have their hands full.
