Brief History

Started in 1984, the Sonoma State lacrosse program has enjoyed success since its inception. Originally chartered into the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League's (WCLL) lower Division II, SSU quickly moved up to the WCLL's more advanced Division I after capturing the Division II title in its first year of play. Throughout the late eighties Sonoma State was a consistent contender for the WCLL title, finishing second in 1988 and 1989 - losing to NCAA Division III Whittier College both years.

In the nineties, SSU has continued to improve. More recent success includes a 65-14 record and five trips to the WCLL Final Four in as many seasons. Throughout 2000, SSU was never ranked lower than second by the USLIA and finished second in the WCLL and third in the nation.
