April 21, 2001 • Rohnert Park, CA - In the second meeting this season between the two teams, Sonoma State was able to hold off a stubborn Cal Poly San Luis Obispo team to earn its sixth consecutive trip to the WCLL Final Four Tournament. After a close first quarter, ending 2-1 in favor of the Cossacks, the game seemed to be in hand by halftime as Sonoma took a 6-2 lead. However, the Mustangs rallied in the third quarter, cutting the lead to just two points late in the quarter before Sonoma answered back to keep the lead at four. In the fourth quarter, the rejuvinated Mustangs pressured the goal to no avail and the Cossacks were content to end the game on a conservative note by protecting the ball without taking any ill advised shots.
