May 2, 2000 - After falling behind 4-0 early in the first quarter against an excited UCSB squad, the Cossacks were finally able to spark a 13-1 scoring run that sent SSU on to victory and the WCLL Finals.
UCSB was able to control the ball for long periods of time during the first quarter and methodically scored 4 goals in the first ten minutes of the game. During that time, the Cossacks rarely had possession of the ball and played foolishly when they did. Finally, Brett Flynn was able to break free and stop the bleeding with a goal on SSU's last shot of the quarter.
In the second and third quarters, SSU simply dominated the Guachos, winning 9 of 14 faceoffs and running the score to 12-5, including 4 man-down goals. With the game clearly under control and the Championship looming, the Cossacks slowed the pace in the fourth and coasted to a 13-7 final.
The game ball was awarded to Blake Abbate who scored two goals in the second quarter, including the go-ahead goal when the Cossacks needed production the most.
