November 3, 1999 - After playing below expectations and finishing 2-1 at the UC Davis Tournament on October 23rd, the Cossacks continued to play poorly against Stanford when the Cardinal came to SSU on October 30th. After a solid first quarter in which SSU took a 4-0 lead and an explosive second quarter in which the Cossacks extended their lead to 10-4, the Cossacks packed it in for the third and fourth only scoring 2 more goals in the entire second half.
Stanford's head coach Pete Bijesse attributed the turn around to hustle on ground ball, taking advantage of SSU's 35 turnovers, and time of possession due to penalties. The Cossacks committed seven penalties in the second half (11 overall) resulting in 3 extra-man goals for the Cardinal and a fatigued defense for the Cossacks.
Despite the offensive dominance by the Cardinal in the second half, SSU's goalie, Jamie Refvem, had an outstanding game, making 19 saves - 13 alone in the second half. Leading SSU in scoring was Ryan Horn who finished with 7 points (2/5) and M.J. Crickmore who rang up 4 goals on the day.
