October 18, 1999 - The SSU Lacrosse Team is proud to induct three new members into its Hall of Fame. The awards ceremony took place Saturday evening following the Annual Alumni Game and Barbecue. Inducted into the Hall of Fame were Tom Fajardo, Chris Jaurique, and Jerry Loftin. Tom Fajardo (G) was a Captain of the original SSU Lacrosse Team in 1984 and set a still-standing SSU Team Record with a .743 Save Percentage in 1988. Tom has also served the SSU Lacrosse team as an Assistant Coach, Head Coach, and President of its Alumni Association. Chris Jaurique (M/A) is widely considered the best player to ever play at SSU and holds SSU Team Records in both Goals and Points in a Season with 86 goals and 120 points in 1988. Jerry Loftin (M/A) was also a Captain of the original SSU Lacrosse Team and is second on the Most Assists in a Season list with 50 in 1989. All three inductees gave short acceptance speeches encouraging the current SSU Lacrosse Team to embrace its opportunities and not take the SSU Lacrosse experience lightly. Fajardo, Jarique, and Loftin all stated that SSU Lacrosse had been a positive influence on their lives and thanked both former teammates for their support and current players for carrying the torch of success so high. Alum James Craft ('95-'98) Donates Sticks to 2000 Team October 18, 1999 - Following in the footsteps of Leo Hartford (SSU Lacrosse 88-91) who donated sticks to the SSU Lacrosse Team in 1995, James Craft, a member of the '95 team, has donated a stick to each member of the 2000 team. Each player will receive the head and pocket of his choice and all sticks will be custom dyed with and "SSU" logo. Needless to say, Craft received a standing ovation from the current membership upon the announcement of his donation at the Annual Alumni Barbecue. The SSU Lacrosse Team would like to express its gratitude to James Craft for his generosity and all alumni, parents, and friends who donated to the program over the weekend. Thank You. October 18, 1999 - In what proved to be the best Alumni Game in years, the current SSU Lacrosse Team beat its Alumni 19-10 to run its Alumni Game win streak to five. Tied 4 -4 at halftime, the 2000 Team was able to build a six point lead in the third quarter as youth and conditioning prevailed over experience and bad knees. In a game that allowed all players to get equal playing time, the 2000 Team was led by sophomore attackman Brett Flynn who finished the game with 2 goals and 3 assists. The Alumni were led by '99 Graduate and Team Captain, Jim Gillan, who had 3 goals. James Craft and Marcus Rome both had 2 goals, while Joe Latulippe, Graham Elsdon, and Jerry Loftin all had 1 a piece. Elsdon also had one assist. The game ball was awarded to SSU's newest member, Matt Dennig, who has accepted the role of face-off specialist and performed valiantly against such face-off legends as Marco Cano, Joe Latulippe, and Chris Jaurique. Alumnus of The Week September 27, 1999 Oliver
Day
Ollie, a WCLL All-Star in '97 & '98, All-USLIA in '98, Team Captain and SSU Defenseman of the Year in '98, is enjoying a great deal of personal and professional success. Married to high school and college sweetheart, Kelly, in July, Ollie is currently employed as a software consultant for Peoplesoft, Inc. Originally from Poway in San Diego County, Ollie and Kelly now reside on the beach in Carlsbad, also in San Diego County. On his living situation Ollie commented, "I love being back in Southern Cal. My job allows me to pretty much live where ever I want because I travel to customer sites every week. Needless to say I am racking up the frequent flier miles. I spend my weekends trying to catch up on things I missed during the week and I surf as much as I can." Ollie looks forward to seeing other alumni on the 16th and is predicting an upset by the has-beens. Ollie can be contacted at: oliver_day@peoplesoft.com |
